Anora, the reigning winner for Best Picture at the Oscars, is all about a young woman who really wants her Cinderella story to come true. Mikey Madison won Best Actress for her turn as Anora Mikheeva, a sex worker who has gone about as far as she can in life until she meets Ivan “Vanya” Zakharov (Mark Eydelshteyn). In Ivan, Anora sees a way out and a potential life of ease and luxury thanks to his wealth. Unfortunately for Anora, she and Ivan underestimated just how far his Russian oligarch parents, Nikolai (Aleksei Serebryakov) and Galina Zakharova (Darya Ekamasova), will go to annul their marriage and keep them apart. When Ivan runs off, he leaves Anora to face his parents’ henchmen alone.

L.A. Confidential is a movie made almost three decades ago, and it’s set four decades even earlier than that. And yet there’s something timeless about its recreation of Los Angeles in the early 1950s, with the classic Hollywood landscape juxtaposed with the brutal realities of the LAPD, many of whom are either corrupt or cruel jerks who happily abuse the people they’re supposed to protect.

Ed Exley (Guy Pearce) despises the brutality of his fellow officers, including Wendell “Bud” White (Russell Crowe), but he’s not above leveraging his testimony against them to get a promotion. That fuels a very personal vendetta between Exley and White, just as they both stumble upon different aspects of a wide-reaching criminal conspiracy that has the LAPD in its grasp. Like it or not, White and Exley are going to need each other in order to unravel this case.

The real Mark Zuckerberg is a pretty unpopular guy despite co-creating Facebook, one of the most dominant sites in social media history. The Social Network dramatizes the story of Facebook’s rise and casts Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. This film also goes a long way toward explaining the enmity that people have for Zuckerberg.

It’s one thing for him to swindle the Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler (both played by Armie Hammer), since they’re pretty unlikeable as well, at least in the context of the film. But when Zuckerberg betrays his friend and Facebook co-founder, Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), it’s unforgivable. And yet David Fincher’s film is a masterpiece that’s impossible to look away from. There’s no need for a sequel, because we’re living in it.

Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler gave Mickey Rourke a late-career comeback as Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson, a man who was once on top of the wrestling industry in the ’80s. Twenty years later, Randy can barely hold down a job, and his time in the ring is coming to an involuntary end. With little else he can do, Randy tries to repair his relationship with his daughter, Stephanie Ramzinski (Evan Rachel Wood), and find love with a stripper named Pam (Marisa Tomei).

The problem with Randy is that even at his best, he’s never quite good enough to have the relationships that he wants. Plus, the call of the ring may prove to be too irresistible despite the consequences.

But it is a very effective low-budget survival thriller about two best friends, Becky Connor (Grace Caroline Currey) and Shiloh Hunter (Virginia Gardner), who find themselves trapped in a dangerous situation of their own making. Climbing an old radio tower in the desert was reckless, to begin with, but Becky was talked into doing it in honor of her late husband.

While the climb goes relatively smoothly, Becky and Shiloh become trapped when they attempt to climb back down. With their supplies out of reach and no one around to help them, the two friends desperately need to find a way down in order to survive.

De Niro plays Neil McCauley, a veteran thief with Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) as his right-hand man.

McCauley’s most recent heist has gotten far more attention on both sides of the law than he’d like, and fleeing the country seems like a viable option. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Vincent Hanna (Pacino) of the LAPD is closing in on McCauley and his gang. To escape their unjustly extended contracts with Weyland-Yutani, Rain (Cailee Spaeny), her android Andy (David Johnsson), Kay Harrison (Isabela Merced), and a few others undertake a risky mission to scavenge materials from an abandoned space station. By the time they realize that Weyland-Yutani’s Xenomorph experiments took place on that station, it’s too late to escape intact. Ladybug is an assassin who is very unlucky, to the point where he wants to leave the life of a killer behind him. But he’s roped into filling in for an operative on a Japanese bullet train for a supposedly easy job.

All Ladybug has to do is retrieve a briefcase full of stolen money and slip out of the train before anyone realizes it’s missing. It’s easy to say, and almost impossible to do when multiple assassins get on the train, each with their own agendas. Ladybug may not have been looking for trouble, but it’s found him.
